Tied to the Buddhist themes of mortality, mindfulness and living in the present. In spring, it is blooming time, powerful, glorious and intoxicating, but tragically short-lived — a visual reminder that our lives, too, are fleeting, our own passing time on earth with the same joy and passion? Why do we neglect to revel in life when it can end at any moment, or in the grace surrounding us everywhere cherry blossoms remind us, to pay attention.

Enjoy be in the moment!

Haiku:

Drinking up the clouds

it spews out cherry blossoms –

Yoshino Mountain.

Wind blows

they scatter and it dies

fallen petals

Petals falling

unable to resist

the moonlight

Sakura, sakura

they fall in the dreams

of sleeping beauty.

-Yosa Buson (Japanese Poet in 1700’s)
